Any time I can play with an online Google tool, it’s a good day. Just in time for Earth Day 2017, tech giant Google debuted a brand-new version of its virtual explorer program, Google Earth, packed with a multitude of exciting new features. At least until I started digging into it a little bit.

(Of course, you can still access and download Google Earth 7 for desktop.) Hold it in your hand, pass it around a classroom, fly around the world and walk inside places thousands of miles away in incredible.

When I wrote the post about Tour Builder, I had not been able to successfully figure out how to import KMZ/KML files from Google Earth into Tour Builder, so you could reuse previously created Google Lit Trips, Google Earth Walks, etc. So when Google pushed out an online version of GE this week, all was right with the world. Get the new Google Earth now on the web in Chrome on Android as it rolls out this week and on iOS and other browsers in the near future. There are so many applications for using Google Earth technology in just about every subject area.

Well now there is a full web-based version, so you can start traveling the world in 3D from your classrooms (or living room when you need a little dose of tropical relief like me)!Ī few months ago, I wrote about connecting students to the curriculum through Google Tour Builder. Since it required a download, it could not be used on Chromebooks. It is AH-mazing! Prior to this new launch, you had to download a separate program to use Google Earth. So you’ve probably heard about the new Google Earth for the web and Chromebooks that Google launched in April?! If not, you can read about it here.
